25.01.12 - On the Drawing Board - M.F.Cottage
t-sa with Charlie Luxton are working on a masterplan of a cottage and a new stone and glass wing for an old farm site in West Oxfordshire. The new free form architecture connects the landscape, the historical walls and the existing cottage to maximise this wonderful open site.
16.01.12 - Hookerswell - site ongoing
Hookerswell Farm site is on going with the zinc roof, bespoke skylights, copper rainwater details and window cills. Joinery items are being installed and Barn A's internal structures have been fitted out. This bespoke project is being carefully crafted on site by local specialists using available local materials.
16.12.11 - Brazil - Lina Bo Bardi - Intermediate 2, AA
Takero Shimazaki with Ana Araujo and the students of Intermediate 2 at the Architectural Association have returned from the Unit trip to visit buildings by Lina Bo Bardi and her former-staff and collaborators. The next jury will be on the 13th January at the AA, when the students will present their research.
05.12.11 - Soho - Mixed Use receives planning approval
t-sa's project in Soho for a commercial/gallery space and residential units above has received planning permission. The project sensitively protects the original building while adapting it to the current mixed use.
02.12.11 - Simply Indian receives planning approval
Planning permission has been granted for the refurbishment of an Indian restaurant in Borough. Simply Indian will be extended over two floors with separate dining areas. A bright, delicate eating space will be formed in this narrow urban slot with light timbers and hand-carved concrete floor insets.
30.11.11 - Article 25 - 10x10 Drawing the City
Takero Shimazaki was invited to participate in the fund raising
project 10x10
together with 100 prominent architects and artists, creating personal drawings of the City of London.The auction took place on the 1st Dec and the drawing by Takero Shimazaki with Meiri Shinohara raised £1,600.

10.11.11 - Hookerswell Farm on site
Works on site at Hookerswell Farm near the Great Tew Estate in the Cotswolds are gaining momentum. The zinc roof, joinery ‘cassette’ windows/doors and the bespoke skylights are all being installed.
07.11.11 - Modernist House Conservation starts on site
A 1960’s modernist house conservation over two phases is now commencing on site in Amersham in North of London. In collaboration with Charlie Luxton, the project explores the idea of transparency within a masonry construction and aims to achieve a fluent relationship between the landscape and the interior.
02.11.11 - Brick Awards Shortlist
t-sa designed Centre For Sight has been short-listed for this year’s Brick Awards under the categories of ‘Best Public Building’ and ‘Best Craftsmanship Award’. We used one type of local brick from East Sussex fired at different temperature to give a varying texture across the building.
26.10.11 - Streathbourne completed
Remodelling of a house in Wandsworth has completed and the owners have moved into the new spaces. A large kitchen, dining space at the rear transforms the original house, also connecting the living space and the entrance hall with light and views into the garden, through the large yet intricate joinery of the windows and doors.
10.10.11 - New surroundings for t-sa
t-sa have just moved and are settling into a bright new studio in Peacock Yard, a community of artisan businesses and designer-makers in Kennington. The team look forward to welcoming friends and colleagues to the yard soon.

Architectural Association's Summer exhibition showcasing student's works from this year is now on until the 9th July.

15.05.11 - Soho Mixed Use
t-sa have commenced work on a mixed use project in central Soho, London. The project is testing the long-term limits of ‘bespoke and adaptability’ in tight urban commercial requirements. There will be contrasting dialogues between the historical order and looseness of boundaries, the mass and the light structural insertions, detailed craft and the ephemeral possibilities.
29.04.11 - Beamish and McGlue - Royal Circus
t-sa are working with the owners of Beamish & McGlue delicatessen to create additional spaces throughout their home in West Norwood. This long-term project is inspired by the ‘Conglomerate Ordering’ essay by Alison & Peter Smithson.
15.04.11 - Architects Sketchbook
At t-sa, drawing and collaging by hand is imperative to our design process. Some of our sketches have recently been published in a collection of drawings entitled, ‘Architects’ Sketchbooks’, from Thames and Hudson edited by Will Jones.
21.03.11 - Oxfordshire Villas Detail Development
t-sa are working with
Charlie Luxton Design to develop the details for 6 holiday barns. They are being developed as a series of bespoke ‘cassettes’ of windows, doors and vents, which are repeatable and adaptable. Existing remains of the barns’ stone walls are enhanced by the use of zinc roofing and timber details. Internally, the spaces are kept open with accommodation volumes separated from the original structure to retain the magnificent qualities of the barn structures.
04.03.11 - A House for Three Generations
t-sa are currently working on proposals for a three generational family in north London. How do we accommodate for longer life, changing needs of children, cooking smells, family gatherings and individual spaces and planning for the future? t-sa are working on an ‘adaptable rooms inside rooms’ concept and challenging the conditions of a family house from inside out.
28.02.11 - A Breathing Space
t-sa were invited as a shortlisted practice to submit proposals for a Music School at a private secondary school. Our concept was to bring the musicians’ activities to the outside by linking the landscape to the inside. This in-between space or ‘music community lane’ is where informal, yet, insightful exchange can occur. The glazed screens and roof lights draw in the trees, vistas and sky.
18.02.11 - Talk at Your Business Your Future Programme
Takero Shimazaki was invited to talk to the current participants of
Your Business Your Future
in High Wycombe on the Visions of the practice. The talk was based on the aspirations of the practice as ‘helping to create identities and adaptabilities in the contemporary built environment’ It was discussed how this ethos was being developed through the practice’s work, through the activities of t-sa forum workshops and the teachings at the AA.
24.01.11 - Suffolk retreat
t-sa are working on a retreat dealing with the idea of an open singular space as a city escape. The inspirations for this micro-climate are the local tradition of dark stained timber, the coastal weather and the open Suffolk landscapes. The playful rhythm of the openings allows the guests to interact to the seasonal weather conditions.
05.01.11 - A Room of Shifting Focus
t-sa’s entry to Living Architecture’s ‘A Room for London’ competition is a way of reading the city of London through a series of shifting apertures; four unique volumes would rest on a forest of thin columns, floating above the monolithic concrete roof of the Queen Elizabeth hall. The guests would be able to see specifically framed views of St. Paul’s or the London Eye through another room or framed by artists’ images on the walls.

Planning permission has been received to convert and restore listed farm buildings and landscaping on the southern edge of the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire into 1000 sqm of guest villas, in collaboration with

02.12.10 - Hide & Seek at the AA
Unit Inter 2 at the Architectural Association, taught by Takero Shimazaki and Ana Araujo will open an exhibition entitled 'Hide & Seek' on 3rd December which will run until 15th December.

20.06.10 - Royal Academy of Arts
Toh Shimazaki Architecture Forum Mini transformed the Sackler Galleries with an installation collaborating with families who created full scale openings on the walls. The event was the Royal Academy’s contribution to the London Festival of Architecture 2010.
17.06.10 - Silver Pigeon Award - The British Council

15.06.10 - Church re-use
t-sa are collaborating with Church Commissioners on proposals for the sensitive re-use of a 19th century church, which will become a gallery and workshop for a joiner craftsman.
03.06.10 - Fusing architecture and environment

t-sa's Healthcare projects at York, Birmingham and Leeds have been featured in a new book entitled 'The Architecture of Hope - Maggie Centre Caring Centres' by Charles Jencks and Edwin Heathcote.
30.04.10 - On the drawing board
t-sa are working on concept proposals for a showcasing pavilion in London. A series of intersecting volumes is evolving from the surrounding landscape and the movement of the visitors.
08.04.10 - t-sa forum Tokyo Exhibition
t-sa forum Tokyo began on 29th March and will complete on 9th April. Focusing on the theme 'Adaptable Structures & Tactile Details', the participants have investigated and designed for the Nanyodo Architectural Bookshop in Jimbocho, Tokyo. 18.03.10 - Bassett Road house occupied
We helped create a large and light, single level home for a playwright and his family. A new workshop looks out to a writers hut nestled in the garden, with openings carved in beautiful wood with a craftsman joiner.

Yuli Toh is elected to the role of Secretary of Architects for Health - RIBA linked society. As a principal on the Executive Committee, together with the Chair, she will be a key liaison with the RIBA and contact for society development.

25.01.10 - Lambeth return
Takero recently had an opportunity to re-visit Lambeth road. The clients are now fully settled and are enjoying the house displaying many of their collected objects from around the world throughout the house.

11.11.09 - Planning Approval - Wandsworth house
Planning approval has been granted for a residential property in South London. The proposal maximises the width of the living space and celebrates the relationship of the family dining areas with the garden.
06.11.09 - 10th Big Draw!
t-sa contributed to The Campaign for Drawing for an afternoon to encourage the public around Southwark Cathedral to participate in drawing workshops. There were several exercises designed to make us more aware of the spaces and objects we are drawing, and not necessarily the canvas we are drawing on.

09.09.09 - Toh Shimazaki Architecture Forum 09
This summer’s t-sa forum workshop had investigated the theme of ‘Adaptable Structures’, focusing on rigorous architectural systems that adapt to ‘incidents’ that occur during the design process. A book compiling these ideas will be published shortly.
03.08.09 - BD Architect of the Year Shortlist

Planning approval has been granted on this project to renovate and extend a house in west London. The team are detailing ready to go to site in spring 2009.
20.11.08 - Planning Approval - Centre for Sight, Oxshott
Planning approval has been granted for this new eye surgery in the village of Oxshott, Surrey. The project features ambitious brick patterning and articulation, a continuation of the concept developed for the main Centre for Sight surgical facility in East Grinstead.

16.11.07 - Centre for Sight Ceremony
Practice members joined the Client's family and representatives of the contractors, JCL, for a ceremony to bless the site prior to the commencement of construction.
03.10.07 - London Rowing Club Opening
Phase One and Two of the development of London Rowing Club have been completed. It was officially opened by Diana M Ellis CBE, the chairman of the Amateur Rowing Association on the 3rd of October.
29.09.2007 - Macclesfield Medical Centre Completion.
The Assura Medical Centre in Macclesfield was completed. A curved timber wall wraps the consultation rooms. Fabric walls are by fashion designer mina perhonen.
25.09.07 - Gloucester Mews West Completion
Completed in late September, this new build three-storey mews house was built on a 3.5m wide gap site in Paddington.
21.09.07 - t-sa Trip
The team recently made an architectural trip to the west coast of Scotland, highlights included Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House, Helensburgh and The Glasgow School of Art (pictured).

23.04.06 - Japan Embassy Talk
Yuli Toh presented, at the Embassy of Japan in London, a talk with fellow members of
Architects for Health. Yuli spoke on the theme of "The Relationship between the Internal and External Environments" presenting images of some of the best examples observed on the tour. The Study Tour in Japan was hosted by the Japanese Institiute of Healthcare Architecture JIHA.

14.02.06 - Mina Perhonen Visit

Akira Minagawa and Aoi Nagae of Japanese Fashion/Textile Designers Mina Perhonen visited the Osh House site. They are currently working with t-sa to install their fabrics as part of the internal architecture.
